How much does an LPN make an hour?
According to figures released in May 2011 by the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the average hourly wage for LPNs across the country in 2010 was $20.21 per hour, which for full-time hours works out to $42,040 per year. Entry-level wages can be much lower.
The Positives of the Traditional Classroom
One of the positives of the traditional classroom is the physical interaction between student and teacher and student and student. Within the traditional classroom, if you do not understand what is going on, you can actually physically meet with your teacher who can show you what you did not understand. Also, in the traditional classroom, you get to physically talk and interact, with other students in the class. You also get to talk with the top notch students if you need to schedule a study session where each student can come and explore their ideas, while listening to others express their opinions. Again the physical interaction is the positive difference of the traditional classroom. This type of tradition classroom with regards to the healthcare education field, which will include laboratory classes, allows you to physically work in an actual laboratory with experiments, while visually seeing what the results are. You get to see the reactions of the chemicals and what would happen when you are a part of a laboratory group. And when your teacher explains the laboratory exercise and actually performs the exercise to show you the way it should be done, can be an exhilarating experience in the traditional classroom. Again, physical interaction within an actual laboratory, that is not a virtual laboratory, is one of the positives of the traditional classroom. There are also make-up assignments and extra credit assignments in the traditional class room. For library work and research, you would have to physically go to an actual physical library and do the research for your assignment. The traditional classroom feels more personal and less virtual.

The Positives of the Online Classroom
While the online classroom doesn’t give you the advantage of the actual physical interaction of the traditional classroom, what it does give you, is the advantage of working at your own pace. With a website, library and calendar for each of your classes, your daily assignments are placed on the calendar for you to see when they are due. You are able to see the calendar and work on your assignments as you prefer as long as they are done by the deadline. You will also have to do usually three classroom posts at least two or three times per week, depending on the instructor, along with offering your opinions on the assignments. Everything is virtual including a virtual laboratory within the healthcare education classes that may offer laboratory. The interaction is less personal, but still considered virtual interaction. There also does not appear to be an offering from instructors in the online classroom world for extra credit or make-up assignments. There does not appear to have much leniency for extra make-up work. Also, there is an online library where you can look up your research, instead of having to physically go to a library. There are also articles and other research work that can be used to help you with your assignments. The students within your classroom are unable to see you but you are asked to introduce yourself on the computer’s website and write an introductory story about who you are and your experiences. You are also asked to blog with your classmates about ideas that you have about the assignments. While you are able to work at your own pace, you must have the discipline to stay on task, as to not get behind. Every week you will have assignments and posts that you will have to complete. Once the week is over, you will not be able to go back and offer assignments for the prior week. And of course with online classes in the healthcare education field and just with online classes of any field, you are required to have a computer where you can enter all of your assignments and posts. All of these interactions are virtual and not actual physical interactions, which may leave you feeling that you are not getting the personal touch, when you interact with a real person.

Think About Your Situation
If you are in the healthcare field and contemplating going back to school, then think about your situation, when choosing between the traditional classroom and the online classroom. Are you a mother with a family who does not have a lot of time? Are you a student who has been away from school a long time and do not understand the online classroom or the technology behind it? Are you fearful of computers and the high tech world and of having to work on them daily? Or are you a person who would prefer the traditional classroom interaction and actually having to attend a laboratory classroom instead of a virtual one? All of these questions will help you as make a decision between the traditional classroom and the online classroom. Both will offer advantages that you will love. Both will require getting adjusted to. And both will require discipline to get and maintain a great grade. Also, interacting with your teacher and classroom is important in the traditional classroom and the online classroom.
